4 Strategies How to Build A Successful YouTube Channel in 2018

Building a successful YouTube channel can not only be a huge boost for your business, but it’s also a great way to create an extra income stream in its own right. However, after purchasing the right equipment to really make your videos pop, you’ll need to follow a few easy strategies to make sure your channel is a success.

In this article I’ll go over exactly how you can set up and monetize your channel, create the right videos, and optimize those videos to make your channel a success in 2018.

1. Setting Up the Channel

The most important strategy and the first thing you have to do is set up your cannel. Luckily, YouTube makes this process very easy. Simply follow these steps:

1. Sign into YouTube and click on the user icon at the top right of the screen.

2. Click on the gear icon to get to your account’s YouTube Settings.

3. Click on Create a new channel.

4. Then choose “Use a business or other name.”

5. Add your Brand name and click Create.

2. Monetizing the Channel

You’ve probably heard of YouTubers who are able to make a living and even live luxuriously simply off the profits from their channel. It’s important to know, however, that MOST of those YouTubers don’t actually make money from the ads placed on their videos. Most YouTubers actually make money from tie-ins for the channel, such as building an online course like Cereal Entrepreneur Academy, doing promotional marketing of products on an eCommerce site, affiliate marketing, gaming donations, or other options depending on their niche.

Making a profit off of ad placements has become more difficult recently, as YouTube announced new requirements for their Partner Program in January 2018. Channels must reach 4,000 watched hours in the previous 12 months and attain 1,000 subscribers to be reviewed to join the program. This means that getting your views up and retaining subscribers should be a top priority.

To monetize your channel, you’ll need to follow these 4 steps:

Step A: Read and agree to the YouTube Partner Program terms

1. Sign in to YouTube.

2. In the top right, select your account icon > Creator Studio.

3. In the left menu, select Channel > Status and features.

4. Under “Monetization,” click Enable.

5. Follow the on-screen steps to accept the YouTube Partner Program Terms.

Step B: Sign up for AdSense

Connect your AdSense account or create a new one, which will allow you to get paid from your videos. To set up an AdSense account you’ll first need to log into your AdSense account and ensure you have resolved any payment holds. Once any holds are resolved, you’ll be paid when your earnings reach your local payment threshold (as long as monetization is not suspended for your channel and you’re in compliance with YouTube policies).

Step C: Set monetization preferences

One nice thing about setting up ads for your YouTube channel is that you can select what types of ads you want to run on your videos. Once you turn on monetization and set up your preferences, all your existing and future videos will automatically me monetized.

After you follow these steps, you will start earning money as soon as your channel is approved.

1. Confirm you want to monetize for all your existing and future videos.

2. Check the boxes under Ads formats to choose the types of ads you want to show.

3. Click Save.

Step D: Get reviewed

After you’ve ensured that your channel meets all the program requirements, YouTube will do a quick review of your channel to make sure it adheres to their policies, terms of service, and our community guidelines. You’ll be notified soon as the process is complete.

3. Creating Videos

There are lots of different places to find inspiration to create fantastic content for any niche. Once you’ve got that done, you have a few options for uploading and improving your videos to your channel.

1. You can download your own videos from YouTube in 720p, or use Google Takeout to retrieve your original files if you want to use them in a new video.

2. You can use Enhancements in Video Manager to trim out parts of your video files. Video Manager also allows you to add effects using your computer or mobile device.

3. You can use the YouTube Audio Library to get free music and sound effects to use in your videos.

4. Optimizing Videos to Get Traffic

Now that you’ve uploaded your videos, you need to optimize them to make sure they’re getting to your target audience. There are three major things to keep in mind to ensure this happens. You need make sure your video is presented in compelling manor that will attract the viewer, you need to organize your content, and you need to use the data available to you to assess the strengths and areas of improvement.

Make a compelling package:

You want viewers to click on your video instead of anyone else’s. Here are a few tips that will help with that.

1. Use compelling titles that accurately represent the video.

2. Create thumbnails that draw the viewer, while also giving them an idea of what the video is about.

3. To reach a global audience, consider translating your titles, descriptions, and captions in subtitles.

4. Avoid using misleading, clickbaity, or sensational titles and thumbnails

5. Get creative with editing. Create a compelling opening to your videos and then use programming, branding, and packaging techniques to maintain and build interest throughout the video.

6. Encourage viewers to subscribe. Subscribers are your most loyal fans and will be notified of new videos and playlists to watch, giving you more views.

7. Engage your audience by involving them in your videos. Encourage comments and interact with your viewers as part of the content.

Organize & program your content:

Make it easier for your fans to find your videos by being organized and consistent with uploads.

1. Increase the time users spend watching per session by organizing and featuring content on your channel, including using series playlists.

2. Create a regular release schedule for your videos to encourage viewers to watch sets of videos over single videos. You can even schedule video publish times.

3. Perform keyword and key-phrase research to better understand what topics and search queries people are performing RIGHT NOW! Tools like Google Trends, Google Keyword Planner, and YouTube/Google Suggest are all great platforms for monitoring what audiences are searching.

Use reports to see what’s working:

You can use YouTube Analytics to see what videos your audience is clicking on, and which ones are keeping their attention. Pay attention to:

1. Watch time report: Find out which of your videos has the greatest watch times and view-through rates.

2. Audience retention report: See which of your videos has low watch times and view-through rates. Recurring dips or decreases in audience retention graphs may give insight into the reasons why viewers abandon the videos.

3. Audience interaction reports: See which of your videos drive community actions like comments, favorites, and likes.

Building a successful YouTube channel in 2018 requires more than simply setting it up and making quality videos. You also need to monetize and optimize your content to make sure you’re getting the most out of the platform.
