How User Experience and Content Affect Search Rankings?

October 30, 2017

In the previous post, we talked about keyword research. In this article, I will share with you how user experience and content affects search rankings.

Search engines continuously struggle to improve their performance by providing the best possible results. In spite of remarkable technological advances, search engines can’t yet understand the text, see images, or watch videos in the same way a human can. In order to interpret and rank content, they often depend on meta information about how people interact with sites and pages. It is this information that they use to comprehend the quality of the pages by themselves.

How Usability and User Experience Affects SEO

Search engines can directly interpret sitemaps, content, keywords and the links. It is through these interpretations that search engines rank content on websites. For the search engines to rank your websites well, you should make sure that your website can bring about good usability and good user experience. If your site is easy to use (loads quickly and is easy to navigate) and search-engine friendly, it can quickly become popular and will rank higher.

How to Write Content to Boost Rankings

There are many ways by which high-quality content can boost search engine rankings. Here are some of them:

Write Engaging Content

Content that contains useful information and that is more engaging can get higher rankings on search engines. You should write your content in such a way that it addresses your readers’ needs so that you will have higher chances of landing high in search engine results.

Search engines also measure the amount of time a reader spends in reading your content. They are alerted when a reader clicks the back button to get away from your site. This click simply means that the user is not satisfied with what he or she reads. When a reader or a user spends more time reading your content or interacting with your site through forms and buttons, this means that there is more engagement, which will boost search engine rankings.

Encourage More Links to Your Site

Search engines often measure how many backlinks are redirecting to a website. It is said that sites that contain more quality content that is useful to readers often get more links than the other sites. The number of links to a site is interpreted by search engines as a positive sign that you offer good content that deserves the top positions in search engines.

Create High-Value Content

High-value content is content that readers can easily relate to and that can be of use to them. In creating content, don’t focus much on the product or the service that you are endorsing; rather, focus on the end users or your clients that may be using that site. Create content that drives the conversation forward, not ends it. The right content can bring about reader satisfaction and may even encourage conversation among readers!

High-value content is evaluated by the Panda update. In 2011 Google introduced the Panda update to its ranking algorithm, significantly changing the way it judged websites for value. The algorithm was introduced across millions of sites and the end result was a seismic shift that reshuffled over 20% of all of Google’s search results.
