Building a Successful Digital Marketing Agency Series: Part 2: The Numbers Game (Landing Clients)

Digital marketing is a big part of running a successful business these days, and it will only become bigger in the next few years. This is because a lot of businesses are now going digital, and online stores and websites will not be successful without making use of digital marketing. As consumers continue to rely heavily on the digital landscape, digital marketing is a MUST, whether you are a small business owner, a service provider, a celebrity or an online store entrepreneur.

If you think that digital marketing is hard, you’re mistaken! Digital marketing is easy and will bring about a huge increase in sales for any business, and with the huge increase in demand for digital marketing, now is a great time to consider a career as a digital marketing consultant. Being a digital marketing consultant can earn you thousands of dollars a month and you can work right from home with all the flexibility that you want–it’s truly a dream job!

In my previous blog post, I discussed my acronym for certain success in the digital marketing game. This acronym is SWEPS, which stands for Social Media Marketing, Web Development, Email marketing, PPC and Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Now, I will be talking about The Numbers Game, a game that will play a huge role in your digital marketing success.

So what is this Numbers Game? This game is all about landing clients. If you really want to be successful as a digital marketer, you need to have persistence and determination. This means that you have to network and reach out to other people, wherever you go and whatever you do. If you are determined to find success in digital marketing, here are some tips:

Tips on How to Land Clients

1. Build Self Confidence

Self-confidence is important. The more self-confident you are, the more willing you will be to take risks to achieve your own personal and professional goals and the more you will be able to think positively about your future. People are also drawn to others that exude self-confidence–if you like yourself, other people will also like you. This is important in networking and building good relationships with prospective clients.

To achieve self-confidence, you should identify your talents, focus on your skills and take pride in yourself. Self-care is also an important part of building self-confidence, so take care of your appearance, relax, and sleep well.

2. Do Some Networking

You can meet people everywhere–in the airport, on the train, or even in the bar. When you meet new people, take that as an opportunity to present your services. I met some of my clients that way with much success. If you are in a public place, you should always sit next to people so that you can strike a casual conversation. You cannot talk to people if you are sulking in one corner!

3. Present Proposals

Now that you have identified your prospects, do your own research about their business. Look at their products, the business owners, their partnerships, the history of their business, and their clients. Then ask yourself: how is the business able to use your services?

The next step toward landing a client is to set a meeting. You can think of the first meeting solely as an informational meeting. During the first meeting, just get to know the prospective client. You don’t need a sales pitch, you just need to get them to like you and to start to build a relationship. There are four things that are needed to close a sale: likeability, confidence or personality, preparedness, and the ability to read your audience.

The second meeting is the proposal meeting. It’s important to get as many proposal meetings as possible, as you might find you have to present proposals to 10 business owners to close 3 deals. After the meeting, you can follow up with your prospective clients with emails so that you can keep in touch with them. Be persistent and determined, and don’t lose hope!

Once you land those clients, you will now be ready to execute your plan using the SWEPS technique!

4. Prepare To Deal with Failure

Finally, if you plan to make it as a digital marketer, you have to be prepared to deal with failure. I know that this plan does not always work, but hey, persistence and determination are the keys to success! Landing your first clients might be the most difficult part, but if you’re always networking and looking for new opportunities, the more prospects you’ll be able to find. In time, you will be successful!

Follow all these steps and you will surely find success as a digital marketer and be on your way to making millions!
