How to Generate 1,000’s of New Site Visitors Using YouTube
As all us digital marketers know, the video is by far the most commonly shared type of content online. Starting a vlogor YouTube channel not only helps to increase a brand’s visibility and generate new site visitors, but it can also help you increase revenue and build expertise in your industry.
In this article, I’m going to tell you how we at Cereal Entrepreneur Academy have been able to take our YouTube channel and generate over 100,000 FREE views and over $35,000 in sales with a brand new channel in under a year.
Starting a YouTube channel for a Business
Starting a YouTube channel might seem like an intimidating venture, but like everything else, the first step toward success in this endeavor will be to actually do it.
Logistically, creating a YouTube channel is incredibly easy, especially if you already have a Google account. Simply head to YouTube and sign in with the Google account you want to be associated with your channel, go to your profile icon, and click the ‘Settings’ button.
In the settings, you’ll see the ‘Create a channel’ link. Click on this and decide on whether you want to create a personal channel or a business channel using a different name. Enter the name of your business and select which category (Product or Brand; Company Institution or Organization; Arts, Entertainment or Sports; or Other) best suits your channel.
Now you’re on the first steps toward success!
Keys to a Successful Channel
One of the most important aspects of creating a successful YouTube channel for your business is having a good strategy. You want to make sure you’re putting out videos that your audience will truly enjoy.
These are the 4 most important keys to success in this endeavor:
1. Content Value
We all know that content is king, and that is especially true when it comes to videos. You want to make sure you’re making videos that won’t be a waste of your audience’s time.
People want to see videos that are emotional, educational, and/or entertaining. Capitalizing on these will ensure you are adding value to your viewer’s life, and that you’re not just making a video for the sake of making a video.
One way to ensure you’re choosing topics that your audience is interested in is to quite simply ask them. Many channels ask their audience what they’d most like to see discussed in a video, and delivering this to your viewers will only help you build trust and a stronger relationship with your audience.
2. Video/Audio Quality
With advancing technologies, it’s becoming easier and cheaper to produce high-quality videos. Now, I’m not saying you need to make your video look like a blockbuster movie, but putting a little extra into the audio and video quality of your content can go a long way. The last thing you want is for your viewer to be so distracted by the bad quality of the tech that they don’t pay attention to the quality of the content.
For my channel, I use a Canon 70D camera for recording and edit it all together in Filmora. However, if you’ve got a good camera on your smartphone, that and a cheap mic, or even a GoPro will ensure your videos are of good quality.
One of the best ways to keep the audience engaged is to add personality to your videos. Having a person on the screen speaking directly to the audience will go a long way toward captivating the audience in a way that simple, monotone narration just won’t.
We’ve all encountered those people that are so charming it doesn’t matter whether we agree with what they’re saying or not, we can’t help but listen to them. While you want your audience to agree with and listen to everything you say as well, you should ultimately always be aiming for that level of engagement.
Just as with other aspects of your business, you want your videos to be recognizable and unique to your brand. Whether this means having a distinct intro, using graphics and titles, or even as simple as adhering to a similar format in all your video titles, you want your channel to have a recognizable style.
Monetizing on a Channel
Now that you know the keys to a successful channel, you’re going to want to reap the monetary rewards that come along with gaining views. There are many ways to capitalize on your success when it comes to revenue, both within YouTube and through other online channels.
Video Ads via YouTube
Enabling ads on your YouTube channel is as simple as a few clicks of your mouse.
If you’ve already uploaded your videos and didn’t enable ads on the videos, simply:
· Go to Video Manager and select the videos you want to monetize
· Click the Actions drop-down menu
· Select Monetize and confirm or change the formats you’d like to enable using the checkboxes
· Click Monetize
An even easier way to enable ads is to simply click the Monetization tab as your video is uploading and select Monetize my video.
Affiliate and influencer marketing is the simple process of placing affiliate links in your videos using annotation, or in the descriptions themselves. Developing relationships with other businesses to promote their products or services is one of the most common ways that YouTube content creators monetize their videos.
However, this should not be your only strategy for monetization, as relying too heavily on affiliate and influencer marketing may make you seem like a bit of a ‘sell-out’ to your audience.
Online Course or Store
One way that my Cereal Entrepreneur YouTube channel has created so much revenue is through its tie-in to the Cereal Entrepreneur Academy.
My videos are a way to promote the online courses and have allowed me to position myself as an expert to my audience. My videos give the viewer a glimpse at what they will learn through the online courses and help to increase enrollment.
Any product or service that you can be easily purchased online should be promoted in your videos, either in the video itself or in the video descriptions, so long as it is relevant to the video and doesn’t come across as too salesy.
Increasing Your Following
One of the biggest benefits of creating a YouTube channel is that it builds brand awareness and is just one more medium you can use to increase your following. Just like all other social media platforms, there are a few key steps to remember to grow your following.
Putting out content often and according to a schedule is key to building your audience. Not only consistently in posting, but consistency in quality should be at the time of your mind.
Create a content calendar to help you manage your ideas and posting schedule, and remember that every video you post is a new opportunity for you to gain a new follower.
Asking for it (Ask them to follow you!)
If you want something, just ask for it! Reminding your viewers to subscribe to your channel and to check out your other social media accounts, such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat not only informs your audience of your presence on these platforms but will show them that you’re more than just a YouTube channel, you’re a strong brand.
Engaging with Your Audience
Engaging with your audience is one of the biggest ways to help increase your following. Adding this element of human interaction to your channel will build loyalty and a stronger connection. In this social media heavy world, we live in, people are used to having access to the personality and brands they love, so engaging with the audience is essential.
