Pause All Notifications on Instagram For Set Time Period | Digital Marketing News Today

If your Instagram account is like mine, you get notifications all the time. Instagram has a new feature for people like us, though. If you want to make sure your time at work is more productive, you should know how to pause all notifications on Instagram for set time periods – it’s a huge blessing.

Instagram sends notifications for so many things, which is great for helping you to engage on the platform. It’s nice to know when people are liking your posts or commenting them so that you know what’s working and where you can be interacting. Getting notified about what other people are posting can also help you keep up and keep engaged, but it can get overwhelming.

A feature that was snuck into an Instagram is the ability to pause these notifications for set time periods. So if you want to keep the notifications out when you’re at home or trying to get work done, you now have the ability to do so. This wasn’t formally announced, but became available to the public on March 13th.

Users have been given the option to turn off notifications for 15 minutes, an hour, two hours, four hours, or eight hours. This doesn’t stop the notifications from showing up entirely – you’ll still get them when you open the app. However, it stops them from pushing through and keeping your phone buzzing all night long.

For digital marketers, this will be an immense help to productivity. When you’re receiving hundreds of Instagram notifications in a day, iPhone usage time can skyrocket – the Screen Time report can feel terrible if you’re paying too much attention to notifications. With this new feature, you can stay focused for up to 8 hours while you get your work done.

Staying on top of what’s going on in the social media realm is important, but don’t get consumed by it. In fact, Instagram notifications might keep you away from it sometimes. Unless your following accounts like mine, having Instagram notifications turned on might be distracting you from getting news about social media updates.

Here’s how to pause all notifications on Instagram for set time periods, and why you should do it.

How to Pause All Notifications on Instagram For Set Time Periods

To pause all notifications on Instagram for set time periods, you need to update your app. If you’re one of those people who never updates your apps, now is the time to finally let it happen. The update that allows you to pause all notifications on Instagram for set time periods came on March 13th, so you can skip this step if you’ve updated since then.

With your app updated, open it and head to your profile by selecting your profile picture in the bottom right-hand corner. Click the three lines that are in the upper right hand corner on your profile page and select Settings. Select Notifications and locate the Pause function.

Toggle the Pause function on to pause all notification on Instagram for set time periods. Select the time period you want to pause notifications for underneath the pause function. You can choose 15 minutes, an hour, two hours, four hours or eight hours.

Once you’ve done that, that will pause all notifications on Instagram for the set time period. You will still see the notifications when you open the app, though, so don’t worry about missing out. Your push notifications will also return to normal when you’re finished, but they won’t all push through at once.

If you don’t want to pause all notification on Instagram for set time periods, you can also select which notifications you want to pause. For example, you can select if you want notifications for likes or comments on your photos. This can be helpful if you want to see comments when they come through, so you can respond but don’t want to be bombarded by likes.

You can also mute notifications from particular users or from people you follow in general, so that you only see what’s happening on your page. This is nice if you want to know how you’re doing but don’t want to be distracted by other people. You won’t see these notifications as notifications in the app, though – you’ll have to check stories and feeds.

Why You Should Pause All Notifications on Instagram For Set Time Periods

“Why should I pause all notifications on Instagram for set periods?” is a question that I’m sure popped up for you, because social media marketers are so social media focused. Even people who don’t work in social media can be overcome by FOMO by not having notifications on. However, it’s important that your notifications aren’t distracting you.

The number 1 reason to pause all notifications on Instagram for set time periods is because it can actually hurt your productivity as an agency owner. As great as it is to be notified of everything going on, Instagram notifications can easily pull you away from your work. Unless you have superhuman focus, there are benefits to keeping your notifications off.

Why is this any better than putting your phone on vibrate? Why would you need to pause Instagram notifications, iPhones have Do Not Disturb, right?

We both know that Do Not Disturb won’t stop you from being disturbed. If you’re checking your phone at all – which most digital marketers are – throughout the day, you will still see the notification. It’s great if you can resist the temptation to open it, but pausing all notifications doesn’t even give you the option.

When you pause all notifications on Instagram for set time periods, it’s a way to say “I’m not going to worry about that until it’s time.” There’s always something else to be done in a marketing agency, so having the ability to do that is a blessing. This helps remove a degree of human error, and keep you productive throughout the day.

Client Accounts

Keep in mind that you can do this on every account, too. Maybe you want to see notifications for your personal brand at all times, and you don’t want to turn those off. That’s great – but is that the only Instagram account that you signed in to on your iPhone?

For most digital marketers, the answer to that question is no. You’re most likely signed in to as many Instagram accounts as you can be, meaning you’re getting Instagram notifications for 4 extra accounts. It’s great to keep on top of what’s going on with your client accounts, but you need to keep them off sometimes.

Tracking your social media usage as a social media marketing agency owner is very important. It’s easy to get consumed by one aspect of the work we do and begin to neglect your other responsibilities. Pausing all notifications on Instagram for set time periods is a great way to keep yourself out of those bad habits.
