You need to know how to market on Facebook to succeed in 2019. If you aren’t familiar with the platform, I would suggest you start learning now. Facebook marketing for beginners is incredibly simple, and it can start you on your path to Facebook mastery.

Every business has a Facebook page. A business without a Facebook page doesn’t exist in 2019 – you can do it, but a business that’s not on Facebook might as well not be real. You need to be using Facebook to succeed, you need to know how to make a Facebook ad.

I know this all too well, which is why I’ve created my free Facebook Ads Training Course. I want to take you from Facebook Ads for Beginners level marketing all the way to absolute Marketing Mastery. You can’t miss this opportunity to learn how to market on Facebook, because it’s a pass/fail skill. Without it, your business will fail.

If you’re not interested in learning the entirety of Facebook marketing for beginners – if you just want a short Facebook ads guide – let me run down the basics for you. This is not extensive coverage, but it should be enough to get you going. You can use this as the backbone of your Facebook marketing strategy and get started today, but you should definitely sign up for my course if you want something more in-depth.

Beyond that, you can learn even more by visiting my YouTube channel. I love to talk about all things marketing, and share some of my own marketing mastery with you. Whatever you want to learn, I can teach you.

That said, here are a few things you can do today to take your Facebook marketing strategy from Beginner to Advanced:

Cross Promote on Social Media

The first point that I think every Facebook marketing for beginners course should make is this: the number 1 thing you can do to grow your audience on social media is cross promote. Make sure that your Twitter followers or YouTube subscribers can easily find your Facebook page. More important, you should be cross promoting between Facebook and Instagram often.image showing a cross promotion on facebook

Because the two media are owned by the same company, you can see a rise in engagement when cross promoting because Facebook won’t hinder your reach. Similarly, the content from each platform can do just as well on the other with a bit of tailoring. Try taking images and video from your Instagram and posting them on Facebook with a different caption.

This should give you a greater organic reach, and allow you to get more out of your content. Cross promote intelligently and often.

Monitor Your Ads

When you’ve started running ads on Facebook, you should use the Facebook Ads Manager tools to monitor what’s working and what isn’t. The key to knowing how to market on Facebook is knowing how – and when – you should change your creative or double down on your ad spend. Everything you see in a Facebook ads for beginners course comes from an experienced marketer constantly testing and trying new things.

Facebook marketing for beginners should center around testing for your business and keeping on top of analytics. Once you’ve seen 100 clicks on your ad, you can start to monitor your return on ad spend. Your aim – the aim of most marketers – is to see a 300% return on ad spend, after factoring in the time spent.

Return on ad spend can be found easily: divide your revenue by your ad budget. You are likely to lose money or break even early on, but if you focus on what’s working you will succeed. Analytics are the key to marketing, and listening to them is how you win.

Use Social Media Listening Tools

Something that’s often left out when you’re learning how to market on Facebook is your ability to listen to what’s going on around your business. Using social media listening tools can help you find conversations happening all over Facebook and on the internet in general. This gives you an opportunity to engage, and to grow your business.

There are 8 major social media listening tools you should be using as part of your Facebook marketing strategy. Google Alerts is the most well known, and can find content and conversation all across the internet. Tweetdeck can help you to monitor hashtags on Twitter, while Hootsuite can do the same for Facebook including generic, non-hashtag search terms.

Social Mention can help you find mentions of your brand, while Klout can keep track of your engagement metrics. Likealyzer performs a similar role but has more Facebook specific features. Finally, consider using HowSociable to see how your competitors are doing.

Optimize Your Page for Search

Another overlooked part of learning how to market on Facebook is SEO. While you’ve certainly heard the term in reference to digital marketing on the whole. However, it’s also a crucial part of your Facebook marketing strategy. image showing what makes a facebook ad

To make sure that you’re appearing in searches, you should be threading relevant keywords through all of your Facebook posts. You also need to be working strongly on your engagement, as every comment and like will help boost you in search results. Use the keywords in the first 75 words of your page information, as well.

Generate Leads

If you know how to make a Facebook ad, you know that you can always choose “Generate Leads” as a campaign type. However, you might not know how to use it as part of your Facebook marketing strategy. One of the keys of knowing how to make Facebook ads that convert is knowing how to choose your campaign type.

To use the “Generate Leads” option correctly, you’ll need a lead magnet – like a newsletter. Another common practice is a giveaway, which can generate hundreds of leads very easily. Make sure that your lead magnet is appealing to your audience and wrapped with great visual content, and it will increase organic reach as well.

If everything is set up correctly, a little ad spend can go a long way with a lead magnet.

Take Advantage of Audience Insights

In addition to your other analytics, you need to know how to market on Facebook using your audience insights. Facebook will give you all the information you could ever need about your audience, from their income to their marriage status. You can leverage this to further niche down and grow your brand immensely.

This is key to knowing how to make Facebook ads that are successful, as well. Using the Audience Insights within Ads Manager can help you reach your audience for a cheaper bid, driving down your CPC. Analytics are how businesses win in 2019, and these are the most valuable insights you can gain.

Use Ads For PR Purposes

Finally, you should know how to make Facebook ads that help develop your brand. Sales are not the only reason to learn how to market on Facebook, and a sales only strategy will often fail in the long term. If you want to grow more organically, you need to do some branding.

The best way to do these kind of Facebook ads for beginners is to optimize your ads for views, or for brand awareness. Use an attention grabbing image or insightful video, and pair it with constant variations of your brand message. Dedicate some of your ad spend each week to these kinds of ads, and you should see quick growth.
